Entries By Axes of Affiliation

VG does not wish to pigeon-hole artists into racial or ethnic brackets. A black writer is not limited to the category "Black Writers," yet often it is the case that she is also not simply "a writer who happens to be black." As a way of trying to negotiate these terms, we have decided to attempt to organize these artists by "Axes of Affiliation."

What do we mean by "Axes of Affiliation"? Something less rigid and defining as "Racial or Ethnic Identity" but still useful in finding and thinking about artists. Often these lines will match up with "Racial or Ethnic" identities, but as we expand VG we hope to complicate and intersect them.
