Faculty and Academic Professional

Please refer to the listings below for current information about faculty positions currently open in the College of Liberal Arts.

During the 2009/10 academic year the College of Liberal Arts will conduct searches for tenure-track and tenured faculty positions across the arts, humanities and social sciences, as described below. Positions will be full-time over the nine-month academic year beginning fall semester 2010.

Position descriptions and application instructions are accessed by visiting the corresponding position requisitions on the University of Minnesota's Employment website. Requisitions are open for applications when posted to the website.

Minimum materials that must be attached to the electronic application include a cover letter and a current curriculum vitae. Art History

The Department of Art History will search for a tenure-track faculty position in pre-modern Mediterranean art to begin fall 2010.

Asian Languages and Literatures

The Department of Asian Languages and Literatures will search for a tenure-track position in Korean literature and culture to begin fall 2010.

Cultural Studies and Comparative Literature

The Department of Cultural Studies and Comparative Literature will search for a tenure-track position in film/media studies to begin fall 2010..

English Languages and Literatures

The College of Liberal Arts will search for a Chair of the Department of English Languages and Literatures . The appointee will hold an administrative appointment as chair and a faculty appointment at the rank of professor with tenure.

Geography

The Department of Geography will search for a tenure-track or tenured position in Bio-Physical Geography to begin fall 2010. Appointment will be made as a tenure-track assistant professor or tenured associate professor, depending on qualifications and experience.

German, Scandinavian, and Dutch

The Department of German, Scandinavian, and Dutch will search for a tenure-track or tenured position in German to begin fall 2010. Appointment will be made as a tenure-track assistant professor or tenured associate professor, depending on qualifications and experience.

Journalism and Mass Communication

The School of Journalism and Mass Communication will search for two tenure-track positions to begin fall 2010. One position will be in journalism/media history and one position will be in new media journalism.

Music

The School of Music will search for two tenure-track and/or tenured faculty positions to begin fall 2010.

Music will search for a tenure-track or tenured position in clarinet. Appointment will be made as a tenure-track assistant professor or tenured associate professor, depending on qualifications and experience.

Music will search for a tenure-track position in ethnomusicology. Appointment will be at the rank of tenure-track assistant professor.

Philosophy

The Department of Philosophy will search for a tenure-track or tenured position in philosophy of science to begin fall 2010. Appointment will be made as a tenure-track assistant professor, tenured associate professor or tenured professor, depending on qualifications and experience. Candidates must apply to the appropriate posting.

Political Science

The Department of Political Science will conduct searches for three tenure-track or tenured faculty positions to begin fall 2010 or after.

Political Science will search for a tenure-track assistant professor in formal theory.

Political Science will search for a tenure-track or tenured position in political theory, with appointment possible as a tenure-track assistant professor or a tenured associate professor, depending on qualifications and experience. Candidates must apply to the appropriate requisition.

Political Science with search for a tenured position at the rank of associate professor in American politics. This is the Arleen Carlson Professorship in Political Science, an endowed chair.

Psychology

The Department of Psychology will search for two tenure-track or tenured fauclty positions to begin fall 2010 or after.

Psychology will search for a tenure-track assistant professor in behavioral, quantitative, or clinical psychology.

Psycholgy also will search for a tenured position at the rank of professor in clinical psychology. This is the Starke Hathaway Distinguished Professorship in Clinical Psychology, an endowed chair.

Statistics

The School of Statistics will search for a tenure-track position to begin fall 2010; area of specialization within Statistics is open.
